This dwarf Magnolia tree was a key plant for my courtyard redesign this year, unfortunately the crop from Monrovia did not grow well so actually acquiring the tree was a real challenge. I finally found one in mid-May and brought home one of the saddest, scraggliest little trees I’ve ever seen.

Poor, sad Magnolia tree

I loaded the planting spot up with good acidic planting mix and made sure it had good coverage from the drip water hose, and trimmed the dead leaves as they turned brown.

Planting the new tree

Six weeks later, this beautiful bloom amid bright new leaves is my reward!
